Share the ride. Split the cost.
Cost-sharing
A fair share of the trip. No Slyde fees, no payment processing, and no commercial driving.
The driver counts too
The per-seat maximum starts with this calculation:
(Trip miles × $0.76 + estimated tolls) ÷ (seats + 1)
“Seats” means passenger seats offered; the +1 is the driver’s share. Slyde rounds the maximum down to whole dollars, with a $1 minimum.
Tolls on the route are calculated automatically and shared like the rest of the cost.
Slyde uses the current IRS business mileage rate (76¢/mile). It represents vehicle operating costs, not just gas. The IRS rate is a tax benchmark, not approval of a particular carpool or insurance policy.
IRS standard mileage ratesPay for the part you ride
A rider joining partway along a drive pays a distance-based share for that segment, not the whole route. The agreed accepted price stays fixed. The total collected from all riders never exceeds the drive’s cost plus their extra detour mileage costs.
If the driver goes out of their way to pick you up or drop you off, you pay for those extra miles at the same rate. Nobody pays for the driver's time.
The detour fee scales down if the driver chose a price below the per-seat cap. Only the rider causing the detour pays it.
For example, a 200-mile drive with three passenger seats has a maximum of $38 per seat: 200 × $0.76 ÷ 4. This is an illustration, not a listed drive.
$0 to Slyde
Slyde is free. No fees, and no money passes through us. Pay the driver directly in person or by Venmo, Cash App or Zelle, after acceptance and no earlier than the ride day.
Carpooling, not a taxi service
Drivers should share costs for a drive they were already making, not profit or drive commercially. Drivers must hold a valid license, registration and insurance required by their state, and check carpooling coverage with their insurer.
